Lone Oak

Lone Oak SunsetThis image is from my 2014 portfolio. I love the almost graphic look of this beautiful California oak. Speaking of oaks: I found several cork oaks that had sprung up in my potted maples, which I pulled up, to transplant into their own pots. Unless the giant cork oak flung its acorn, I suspect a blue jay or squirrel may have been at work here.

Today is the 3. Advent (represented by the candle of joy), a symbol of Christ’s coming birth. In our technology culture so easy to ignore, missing what truly matters.

Having grown up in a four season country, I always equate Christmas with snow. One year when I was in Germany briefly during the winter, I saw this beautiful sight: Bamboo covered with snow. It was a paradox to me, as I equated bamboo with the warm weather in California. To see fresh green in snow, was just a delight. May you have time for Christ, and the beauty all around us this season.

I discovered this botanical image while editing my body of work recently. Sometimes it’s good to see things with fresh eyes. Originally captured in color, I converted this image to black & white — a superior photo in that format — bringing out all the textural nuances I believe.
